Biography

Dr. Drosos E. Karageorgopoulos was born in 1975, in Athens, Greece. He is a graduate of Athens University, School of Medicine (MD). He trained in Internal Medicine at the Department of Clinical Therapeutics of Athens University, where he studied the etiology of anemia in patients with advanced congestive heart failure, towards a PhD degree.

Dr. Karageorgopoulos' research interests later turned into Infectious Diseases, in affiliation with the Alfa Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Athens, Greece, where he holds a Researcher post. He has focused on the study of nosocomial infections with multidrug resistant bacteria, the evaluation of novel relevant therapeutic options, the optimal use of antimicrobial agents, and the association of infectious diseases with other conditions. Dr. Karageorgopoulos has also served as a staff physician at the intensive care unit of Hygeia hospital, Athens, and he is currently a fellow in Infectious Diseases at the Department of Propaedeutic Medicine of Athens University. Finally, he has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed original papers, reviews, and meta-analyses published in international journals.
