Biography
Robert Jan Stolker was born june 16, 1956 in Amsterdam. He studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and graduated in 1982. Before starting his anesthesiology training he worked as a traumatology and intensive care resident.
He completed his training in 1988 and became a staff anesthesiologist at the Institute of Anesthesiology, University Hospital and Wilhelmina Childrens Hospital Utrecht. From 1991-1994 he was co-director of the Tagesklinik für Schmerzbehandlung Rodenkirchen, Cologne, Germany. In 1994 he completed his PhD thesis "Pain management by radiofrequency procedures in the cervical and thoracic spine: a clinical and anatomical study." From 1994-2008 he worked as a staff anesthesiologist at the Catharina Hospital Eindhoven. He became director of resident education in 2004. In 2008 he switched to the same position at the Department of Anesthesiology of the Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam. In 2009 he became professor of anesthesiology and chairman of the department.
His fields of interest are pain medicine and medical education.
At present he is president of the Central College of Medical Specialties, member of the national educational committee (Concilium Anaesthesiologicum), and president of the Nederlandse Vereniging ter Bestudering van Pijn (Dutch Chapter International Association for the Study of Pain)
